Dragon Arum

Dragon Arum (Dracunculus Vulgaris)

Looks like it's that time of year again... I'm hoping there won't be any nasty freezes from here on out but it's still early yet.

  1. Yes, definitely that time! I hope you get a few blooms--this is my second year growing Amorphophallus konjac, and it's a leaf again. They don't happen to send up leaves and then sometimes flowers, do they? It's always flowers first if they decide to?

  2. I don't know anything about amorphophallus. In fact, I learned about amorphophallus only a couple days ago when trying to help a friend find some dragon arums to buy online (failed miserably in that! Some were incredibly expensive!). Is amorphophallus the next 'popular' thing?

  3. I'm not sure the general popularity of either, but I rotted out my D. vulgaris, so A. konjac is what I've got! The flowers on D. vulgaris look prettier, according to pictures I've seen, but I've only seen A. konjac in bloom in person at the National Arboretum.

  4. I guess I'll have to look into this konjac thing. I might not buy one if it's expensive though.

I found this site where someone took pictures:

It looks like the bloom comes out first.
