Eggs under Leaf - Bugs?

I was watering my spider plants and noticed this.

A close-up. I wonder if anyone knows what they're eggs of? Pretty neat to find!

  1. Cabbage worm? I mean, there are many things called that, but some of 'em have similar eggs.

But I'm thinking it's something different, and it has a different name, and it's a beetle. The ones I'm thinking of use Brassicaceae plants as an orgy pit. When you go for 'em, they "play dead" and drop, so you hold a bucket full of soapy water under them. I don't think it was Japanese beetles, because the Internet says that they lay eggs in the soil, and I definitely remember a similar egg pattern on the underside of bok choi leaves last summer with tons of beetles running around. This is going to (pardon the pun) bug me.

I'd wait and see if it causes a problem, but I'd bet that whatever comes out of those eggs will fit into the "pest" category.

  2. During my search, I noticed some mite eggs look almost like them.

I left the eggs alone because I didn't want to kill them for the sake of killing. I'm worried the bugs inside might be helpful? Hm...

  3. Try clipping the leaf and putting it in a jar. See what hatches out. If they're good, you just turn them loose again! :)
